Soldiers,

 

I thought I would give you an update now that we have started a new year.

 

We have achieved a lot in the past months, and I wanted to refresh your memory a bit.

We released the ‘Planes & Ladders’, ‘Battle Flow’ and ‘Colmar Hamlet’ updates adding new planes, leaderboards, helmet paints and covers, level design tweaks (based on player feedback) and a new map to the game. In addition we made a number of fixes and tweaks.

Thousands of players have logged on to the prototype servers getting a sneak peak of some the content before it was released.

 

Attending Gamescom in Cologne was a great success. We had interviews with dozens of journalists, but more importantly, we got to meet a large number of players when we handed out the exclusive Gamescom 4x4 voucher.

 

Operation Glasnost is taking hold. We have dedicated a lot of resources towards talking with you, the players, on all channels. We are doing weekly devstreams on Twitch. We had a successful first Insider Summit.
We also just made the weapon and ammunition configuration values public. And we are not done at all with all these efforts.

 

We launched the new RETO MOTO company website and visual identity.

 

And finally, Nordisk Film Games invested USD 5 million for a minority ownership share in RETO MOTO.

 

We are putting this investment to work by recruiting new talents – more open positions will be posted soon.
We are gradually upgrading our tools and pipelines to be more efficient. We have finalized planning our backend and toolchain work that I have mentioned before (we call those ‘Mission Critical’ projects).

These Mission Critical projects are complicated, and they will require time to get done. They are however necessary, because they are the foundation for us to provide you with a better service.

 

To give you a few examples:.

  • Our various graphics and assets pipelines needs an upgrade in order to deliver new content (including maps) more efficiently.
  • Upgrades to our sound- and physics-technology are needed to move forward.
  • Migration of some of our services to the cloud is required to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Compliance with the The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is intending to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union, is necessary.

 

As you can see this is already a lot of work for a small team like us. We are growing and I have no doubt we will get it done, but we will still be at a deficit in terms of resources for the next few months which means we will be slower and more careful when releasing new content and features during that period of time – for the next couple of months we will only release minor updates. Think of it as upgrading one of the engines of a plane while flying it.

While we are working on this, we will significantly increase transparency in the form of a Development Overview where you can see what we are currently working on.

Besides the Mission Critical projects, I can already tell you that we are working on the new set of Soviet maps, new tank destroyers, recon vehicles and planes. And of course the vehicle update – which in itself is a very large project that will have a positive gameplay impact for all soldier types.

 

While I am sure you were expecting more good news and especially more updates, I am hopeful you will appreciate the full transparency and the honesty.
We are all very passionate about what we do, we are aggressively pushing in the right direction, we will hit this in due time and we hope you are with us on this one!

 

We have decided to dedicate an entire Q&A & Why devstream next week to elaborate on the topics in this letter, as well as to answer the related questions gathered from you.

Rerun of events so in that case i'll copy/paste my comment on letter #2:

As is in my nature I, for one, keep being skeptical and all i'm saying is:

 

Good intentions and +1 for that but I have yet not seen any of the major game breaking issues being addressed, let alone been fixed yet. Issues that killed the game play for me and many other players. Mostly long time players that left for other games but those that helped raising H&G to it's top era in 2013. Before the well known decline.

 

Major issues not being fixed still and ignored for way too long (without going in detail; being discussed on the forum too many times already but tried to be constructive):

Spoiler

- Infantry scope slowing down game pace / encouraging camping;

- Removed iron sight zoom killed game pace for skilled players;

- Slow (and game pace diminishing) exit animations are pure frustrations and not suitable for this game;

- Art work, both in game as concerning the general UI being a step back compared to old one;

- Graphics quality compared to early Béta (read: drawing distance, FOV, shadows, lighting);

- Lack of WW2 immersion in forms of flags, banners, insignia's, as was the case in early Béta version of the game. Environments look dull;

- Too much HUD info / lack of disabling obstructive messages and tool tips (old F2 function);

- Old maps / previous versions of maps need to be returned (instead of more copy/ paste maps);

- Map design should be based on competitive even balance instead of a preference for attacker or defender (perhaps listen more to experienced competitive players rather than graphical artists who happen to be handy with MS Paint and such) *; 

- Amount of bushes need to be toned down all across the maps **;

- Amount of misplaced props (such as fences, stone walls, sand bags and such) being (ab)used as a method to try to balance map / direct game flow. See *

- Pick Battle list removed but was well liked;

- Squad 2.0. needs to be removed (return to Squad 1.0. and start over, this time based on community wishes/suggestions);

- Spawn 2.0. need to be removed  (return to old spawn locations, simply just add invincibility timer when spawning vehicles and you're done);

- AT darts need to either go or made way less effective;

- Lack of specialized AT class;

- Lack of restriction to # of special class slots per match (as before). Once active, there is less need for so much foliage to create cover for infantry class players. See **

- Insane XP earnings by planes need to be toned down ASAP (it's a single digit that needs to be changed. 5 minutes of work);

- Not able to perform any actions when jumping is skill nerf;

- Not yet have option to take grenades away from weapon cycle and bind them to preference input key;

- Most rooftops made inaccessible due to bad modeling (character models did not fit through windows);

- Endlessly fiddling around with weapon stats (just even them all up. Only trade off with weapon balance should be ammo count v.s. damage per bullet). 

- Heavy set badge still here;

- Differences between possible mods and their effects per faction needs to be evened out (e.g. barrel mod A for faction A has same effect as mod A for faction B.  Keep the name differences though to keep the distinctive feel;

- RNG is skill nerf;

- Overly reacted gun retraction -> activated when not even close to an object;

- Moon gravity when jumping;

- Boundaries of map elements not drawn/shown correctly (e.g. when lying on attic and having clear view, shots get blocked by outer border of house element);

- Lag /ping spikes and packet loss, Especially the Russia based server is killing game experience to MANY players;

- Lack of ping filter and server location filters in MM; 

- MM issue concerning squads without SL, dissapearing squad info boxes;

- Random crashes action game due to use of flash;

- No option to sell or swap gear, other than when promoting to general (should be possible always);

- Laggy RTS map (most likely due to too many AT's in the game. Ergo: limit amount of AT's per player) ***;

- No GUID system to prevent multi accounting thus lead to problems mentioned at ***;

- Lack of interesting RTS elements such as effect of oil-fields and factories on production rates or bunkers / rail road system on troop movement rate.

- SU and US factions fighting each other instead of being merged to just a single faction.****

- Bonus to underdog faction. Which can be removed when performing action mentioned at ****

- Present a bit more realistic in game footage (soft issue though) instead of cinematic trailers that do not represent what the game is. Just doesn't feel right;

- Showing active player numbers on the server again;

- Lack of price list of vehicles and weaponry other than what players themselves had to find out (it's no secret so why not showing us a complete tabel)

 

As you can see, there is (as far as i can see) a LONG way to go still and quite honestly not much has been achieved yet since Reto decided to "open" up a little.

At least take a clear stance on whether something will ever see light of day in upcoming versions of the game or not so players know what to expect from Heroes & Generals and able to decide to stick around or look further and drop the false hope they might have.

 

But credits where credits due: communication towards player base has increased significantly though.

Ergo: For me personally nothing has changed for the better that pushed H&G more towards the old game play and make it more of a competitor to upcoming WW2 games. Keep saying it: stop adding so much unneeded content in the forms of more planes and tanks and start working on loosening up restrictions for the players while focusing on INFANTRY game play.

My thanks to the CEO for the info update.

My question concerns discrimination against Germans.

After all the great progress and plans of which you have spoken,

I would like to know when you stop discriminating against German players and treat each player the same.

To name just a few points from a variety:

1.) All cities are aligned so that German players on the extremely heavy, and Allied forces player have to attack on the easy lines.

2.) German camouflage uniforms are usually more expensive than those of the Allies.

3.) According to my statistical evaluations from 3200 hours of play, rate of german player killed by headshots is 1.76 times higher.

4.) German weapons are fundamentally worse than Allied weapons.

5) German players must always fight on two fronts in the war, thus against two other parties, but have the same resources as each individual opponent party.

 

The players of the other parties may see it differently, but of course they say that because they simply do not want to lose their benefits.

There is a reason that US and USSR troops prefer to fight against Germans rather than against each other.

Also, there must be a reason why the German faction never wins the war, unless clans from other factions change sides for a war.

Does the Nordisk Film company promote you because you discriminate against Germans, or do they know nothing about it and have invested in good faith?

I feel the same, so many years playing this game but still the same, at least for me is unplayable sometimes, the performance never improves or if does it soon is worse again.

I have in my hand the money for my next GPU but why to buy a new GPU if my current one works perfectly at 1080 with all games except with H&G?

 

And lately the "flash part" of the game is collapsing my pc, deprecate flash, that BS is outdated and useless, i love this game but nothing ever changes and you are not really open to the community help at least in the map making part, this game is a gold-mine but your time is running out.

In my opinion it is definetly a major problem.

You probably want to create money with adding all these tanks and planes,

but that costs the player the fun of playing the game. The focusing on the specialist classes has never gone anywhere good and it never will be.

And just like Mastah said: this is an Infantry based game, stop trying to make it something else because that didnt ever work and it will never work,

if your goal is to achieve, i would call it, a 100% game experience.

 

And please do something against this massive HE spam. It is simply destroys every game aspect, it destroys the game flow for infantry, the flow to the capture points, it destroys the whole gameplay.

I suggest a quick and easy little fix: Dont give tankers around 30 HE rounds. Take it down to 10 max, before they need to reload. I wouldnt need to go for every tank if not 90% of them were using HE on spawns.

 

But overall, it is always good to hear from you guys. I am looking forward to the gameplay / RTS tweaks and to the new SU style maps.

Heroes & generals tanking and flying is not supposed to be as realistic as "world of worlding world worlds", (you should have compared to war thunder anyway wot's bad in every shape lol)

h&g focuses on fun and passing time, i enjoy more having a little of armor here and no insta tank kills or plane losing the engine and get angry every single time. i personally like it as it is, if you want realism go to another game

I think H&G tanks is more comparable to WoT tanks, Reto is actually actively trying to copy WoT as evident of the rather arcade HP system and APCR being better in AP in every way... (aka "gold rounds" in WoT)

I've never heard anyone saying about a wot vs h&g comparison. but if you ask me i prefer 1000 times the h&g system than wot's

Yeah, Heroin and Generals is my habit and I've given up trying to fight it.  I just sign on, and get my fix.

Here is a question for your waste of time Why podcast. 

Why are p-38's still in this game we just had a game with a pilot 78-0. It totally ruined the game 6 people quit my squad during this game of 18 minutes. Total baseball to have a plane like that ruin game after game. Fix this now! People are already leaving in droves, this is where your game will be rendered to the trash heap of history if you dont address this total unbalanced plane no one can kill.

But the fact none of you seam to be talking about how your current matchmaking is killing the game for people leads me to think you guys should play your own game more.

Reto Moto employees play the game - on american side. Thats why american weapons are overpowered.

The Reto Moto guys played the game after working - lose against germans - next day nerfed german faction at work - founded american clans

with overpowered weapons and insider information to fight german faction. You see they play their own game!

I'm a huge fan of H&G. I've always wanted wanted to see snow or rain. I and I speak for a lot of players would love to play in the snow. or heavy rain that limits a certain amount of visibility range limits. We believe that it would be amazingly fun.

The “balancing the weapons and everything else for all factions” wound be awesome to see also, but it needs to start somewhere.

I dont realy know are u aware that ban sistem is not working properly, my friend got banned and we cant play no more together but he didnt have any hacks ,and when he send letter to support they told him that he has a hack .Im a Veteran, i started playng back when u coud buy ppsh-41 on US branch and yet I didnt ever saw this problem.

Sorry for my bad english, im from Europe.
