Clan pages on the wiki

Recommended Posts

Africandave    177

UPDATE: Seems it has been moderately successful, with a few new members finding clans from their wiki clan pages

This thread is an attempt to help new players find clans easier.

I have built up a clan section in the wiki where players can look at active clans and view their contact info/organisation/etc

http://heroesandgenerals.gamepedia.com/Clans

Any feedback/updates on clan activity is welcomed

If you would like your clan added to the wiki, just PM me and send the info I need below along with (ideally) 2 images/banners/logos that your group uses.

{{Clan_Page

|name= NAME OF YOUR CLAN/CLAN PAGE GOES HERE

|image= share a link to your "banner" style image

|caption= A motto, short blurb, or some random latin

|type= One Faction Clan OR Multi-Faction Clan

|faction= {{TemplateSoviet}} AND/OR {{Germany}} AND/OR {{TemplateUSA}}

|contact= [DIRECT LINK TO PM - CONTACT NAME]

|website= Your Website here

|forum_post= [DIRECT LINK TO FORUM RECRUITING POST - NAME OF CLAN Recruitment Post]

|teamspeak= Teamspeak address (direct/numeric)

|teamspeak_password= If it applies

|teamspeak_details= Mic, directions etc

|language= All laungauges catered for

|geographic_region= International/ specific, timezone

|description= Use WIKICLAN in application reference (This needs to stay)

}}

Add a description/history etc of your clan here

I like the idea of it because here the "LIST OF CLAN" threads get buried and the "players seeking clans" get bombarded by which ever clan personal are online at the time.

Also the semanticwiki code/format can make some nice pages :D .

So PLEASE can I get feedback from players.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.

We need a clan directory. A one stop shop, where players can examine the various clan options. This could help facilitate the transfer of players from one faction to another.

Originally I thought of a forum post, but having it on the wiki in a much better location. We could create a new clan directory page. Formatted with a table listing all clan names, the primary location of clan members i.e. US, Europe, Asia, ect... The language spoken, person to contact to apply for membership, ect...

Then there could be a single page for the clans that would like to provide additional information.

Vandalism, is the single biggest issue.

Re protection. The pages themselves would have admin level protection so that only I would be able to edit it. To begin with, the pages would only be loaded up in a complete state. There would be a "working editable" version on the pages discussion tab.

Re not the right place. Im not sure about that anymore. Given that the wikis most veiwed pages are starter guides and tutorials new players might be better of finding clan resources and choosing for themselves then how it currently works on the forum

So who's the Wiki overlord who get's to approve or reject this concept? (Reto, or some dark mage chanting incantations in a long forgotten language?)

Probably a combination of reto and the gamepedia staff. External links are not expressly forbidden but in cases where people make money from this (potentially owners of clan websites) it might be different, i have seem it happen on other wikis though.

As for a dark overlord of the wiki that might be me but I would also consider the title white knight because I protect the wiki princess even when she does stupid things and is wrong all the time xD

I like the idea.

As far as I understand only authorized clan members will be able to edit clan pages?

It would be done so that the page is setup 100 percent then linked to be publicly viewed. I don't imagine it would be update very frequently as it would just be description info and maybe other images nothing fluid like a list of current members.

Unfortunately current protection is either everyone even anons, all wiki accounts which are easy to make, and admin only. Anything that needs to be changed can be proposed or just pm to me will fix it.

Of course clans would need to be active for the pages to stay online. I usually see the posts about activity here on the forum.

And I think the clamp focused on heroes and generals only (or at least primarily) would be the only condition I can think of.

I can probably try and draw something up today,

Please tell me,

What would you find on a clan page as an example?

Maybe clan rules like no flaming/griefing. Stay off religion and politics in the TS chat. No spawncamping on skirmishes, no using of glitches bugs etc.

Think that could be included in the clan overview page.

Awesome. So do we log in and edit it or supply you with the details and go from there?

Still waiting on any interest from other clans, RETO, curse etc
