emanuelmaruio 1 Report post Posted June 25, 2012 My Granpap gave me some things he aquired while serving with the 3rd Marines during WWII. He was a machine gunner and saw action on Guam and Bouganville. There's a few "odds and ends" that he "liberated" from corpses. The collection includes... -Japanes Flag---It's got bloodstains and is signed by a few of his squad mates. He told me it was tied around a soldier's waste. -5 or 6 Teeth on a dog tag chain -Wallet with some "script" -Many small photos of Japanese men, girls, and a squad of Japanese Marines. Some have writing on the back, but I can't read Japanese. -Map case -I guess those are the "highlights".

Both are tack drivers with surplus ammo made in Bulgaria, or Hungary, or Yugoslavia 40 years ago. (and will crack 4in of reinforced concrete in half at 150m in 5 shots) Maybe you update the game to include this fact? I also have a US Army Chaplain's hymnal from the European campaign. Antique shop I think.

tomch1k 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2012 At some point, i did some local computer repairs and one day i was invited to fix a very old gentlemans computer. He was a musician and used his old pc for recording things and listening to orchestras online. This gentleman was surely pro-german during the invasion of Denmark (where i live) and he had many amusing stories of the period, especially how he and his friend, both young boys at the time had been shot after, while searching the prohibited beach for washed up ammunition. One of the german guardsman achually hit him in the head with a bullet, but it was from such a distance that he dident get severly injured. He told me that the guardman after the incident was very harsly diciplined by his superior because he shot at the boys. This old gentleman had during the occupation collected many small strange things from the wehrmacht as he had become friends with some of the soldiers stationed in this area after the shooting. He loved to tell these stories and i would happily listen, and as a tolken of my appriciation of the war history he gave me 3 flyers from the war time. And promised me a mortar shell he had picked up, on my next visit. Unfortunatly i never came back and i do not think he is a live anymore. The first flyer he gave me was one thrown down from german bombers during the invasion of Denmark, stating in very horribly bad danish grammar that we should give up without a fight as the Germans were our friends defending us from the bolchevics, we were part of the nordic brotherhood and had nothing to fear from them. The second flyer was dropped from an english bombers, with a large drawing of an empty chair on it, urging us to fill that empty chair in London, besides our allies. The third flyer was a rare one, a small blueish paper, it was from the local ressistance movement. This one was printed in cellars and giving by hand to the danish public, this was very illegal in war time and carried a harsh penalty for anyone caught with it in their possesion. A couple of weeks later, i was helping another elderly gentleman with his computer in the other end of the same city. He had medals hanging all around his small addict office. It turned out, he was part of the ressistance movement during the occupation and he told me some brilliant stories, one about how they helped some captured resistance men escape from the grasp of the gestapo. Back then he worked for a local boiler company, and the gestapo HQ down town (wich was located next to the Gestapo prison) needed to get a boiler changed. In cooperation with the resistance, some dynamite with a timer had been placed inside this new boiler. The timer was set they drove off with the boiler and he told me that to their big suprise they dident have any trouble getting in or installing it and were out of there faster then they anticipated. But as everything seemed to go according to plan, once the dynamite went off they realised somebody had gotten the amount of explosives wrong the boiler blew sky high almost taking the entire building block, prison and all with it. In the end he told me, it had caused a massive explosion but luckily had not harmed any prisoners. They managed to help the resistance fighters escape and they were later shipped off to england. These stories and the flyers are what i have from WW2, they have a great value to me. Brilliant thread btw!
