The recon who cant recon

Recommended Posts

CashBanooca    28

Excuse the stupid title and im sure this will turn out to be a "me  only" problem

but...

... Am I the only one who thinks its much more difficult for recons to make progress in the recon ribbon ?

... my AVS soldier got the camo badge

... my SVT soldier has it aswell

... my infantry bolt action  character got it too after using first encounter to headshot bots

I have been grinding 2 weeks now and I hardly made any progress with my recon in that badge - first encounter doesnt work for recons

and scoring headshots simply is too cancerous with the current server /hitreg situation

And long range shot reward abysmaly low exp for that ribbon

why is it so much easier for basic infantry  to get a badge that is named after what another class supposedly does best ?

again inb4 :" you just need to git gud " etc ... sorry I just cant pull 20 headshots a battle no matter how hard I try , taunt me all you want , im sure by the looks of it , many other recons cant do that either

also  I even tried SVT recon with PQF for headshots but  that cant be the only way right ?

Because you get 104 xp every time you headshot someone with a bolt action or a semi-auto rifle, like the SVT and the AVS (the AVS and the M1/M2 aren't classified in the code as Assault Rifles, but as semiautos. Headshoting is the only reliable method to farm this ribbon. Now combine auto rifles with random conefire and random heashots...

"Capturing without being seen", although it gives 225 xp, is an unreliable methods since you have no way to know if that capture qualified until the match is over. I don't even know what "without being seen means" after all these years. I agree that the recon progression isn't well done, since it mirrors too much the infantry one. My advice would be to make sure to spawn and capture the first point of the match, and to capture the objectives (those always count for the ribbon). Consider playing Forward Airfield (because of the 3 objectives). It's a very painful grind, but you can combine it with other things, by always deploying as recon in the first spawn of the match, capturing the first point, then switching to whatever other class you want to play.

It's boring, but it can be done.

I think Gpakos said something like " capturing without beeing seen "  means that you get exp if you dont get spotted in the last 5 minutes or so , this also means as passanger in an APC or any other way ,

Anyways - thanks for the tips - I guess Ill have to slog through that one :(

Its still kind of silly for me that its so much harder as a recon  because I basicly got it for free with my infantry soldiers from doing stuff that are not recon..y at all

you clearly haven't been introduced to the Reto-Moto way of development for very long.

Enjoy your stay

It takes a while to grind that ribbon, but it's not bad once you get the hang of the things you can do to grind the xp.

- Play with an unmodded SA rifle for a while and go for headshots only.

Unmodded, because then the weapon is most stable for headshots and you won't be tempted to take the easy way out and body shoot them.

- Capture a barely contested point, hide outside the point, let the enemy capture and recapture when they have moved away. Repeat again and again for a lot of xp and credits.

Don't show yourself or shoot at people, if the enemy thinks there's no threat they're more likely to leave and find the action elsewhere. And it means it counts towards being 'unseen'. If the enemy does stay and defend, or the action moves towards your point, find another point to do this. I liked the hill skirmish for this purpose.

- Capture the first point in any match - easy extra xp.

- Long range shots - if you snipe with unmodded rifle with scope over long ranges (100m+ I think?) you're unlikely to kill enemies, but you will hurt them. Every time you hurt them you get xp. And as long as you only hurt them and not kill them, they won't get a kill cam to search for you, while they arrive at their destination with less health. You'll not be very useful to the team, but this is one way to grind.

- Stay alive - self explanatory. But I think you also need to have contributed to the fight somehow.

Little update : I straight up gave up on having that badge and playing recon at all

I get arround 800 exp for that ribbon every battle and when already badge level 9 requires 32000 exp to complete I simply refuse to waste time on this by beeing completely useless to my team

sometimes I get straight up NO EXP at all because the matchmaker puts 9 recons in my team and the battle lasts a cummulative 5 minutes tops

OR

9/10 times I get put on a server with 200 ms ping or the infamous moscow server

we are looking at how much here ? 300-400 hour grind or something ? I simply dont have the stamina for a grind that long and cancerous while also actively hurting my teams performance

I also realized that the problems with recons probably wont be remedyd by having that badge in the first place

Anyways , thanks a lot for all the suggestions but I simply dont have the stamina for that infuriating grind

So I either risk my account

or

Lose my mind from the most restarted grind in gaming history ?

great design there reto , might aswell have put that badge at the end of the "dedicated teamkill ribbon"

Late Edit : the more I think about it , there might be  a reason people think recons are useless , more than half of the stuff that they have requires them to be utterly useless to the team for a prolonged period of time

Recon car ? driving back and forth , or god forbid at the edge of the map for an eternity

Bolt action rifle ? say good bye to your ability to play cqc range and cap the objective

Camo badge ? slog throught 800 hours of grind  just to get something that can be aquired by infantry in  a week

I hate to say it  but I think recons might not only be useless by playstyle of the players itself but also straight up worthless by design

cant provide area denial like tanks

cant cap points like infantry

all for what ? mindless ticket drain

Sir, this is the most reasonable thing I've read on the forums this week. You've earned my respect.

See, this is the thing: back in the day you could transfer character between classes once you unlocked some player rank. After reaching level 9 (it took double the xp back in the day, equivalent to what level 12 is today), you could turn an infantryman into recon (other careers were unlocked earlier). So you could just grind the pistol and the antitank grenades, then switch to tanker, or grind the recon car as infantry, then switch to recon. Players would grind camouflaged for their tankers by switching them to infantry, grinding the badge, then returning to the tank career... Some grinds have gotten way better (kill assists are a blessing, squad order bonus is very helpful, etc). But, again, a number of grinds for specialists mirror the progression for infantry, and that could've made sense before August 2016, but not today.

Because Reto actually cares and because it's a gamble. The chance of getting caught and being punished is always there. And all it takes is one bad streak of luck to find your credits and warfunds taken from you.

No, you don't need to contribute in any way. However, the game will kick you out if you don't do anything. And the battle must last for at least 15 minutes to qualify, so skirmishes don't apply, you have to play Assault maps that last 30 min. Besides, being AFK is not only risky, but also stupid (you get 225xp, just as much as capping a point). I'd say that surviving the match is a nice bonus, and if you see that the match is about to end and you've not died yet, just hide the last minutes in a corner safely, but I wouldn't count on that to grind.

Okay so I *kinda* read the thread so far I see you struggle and you are frustrated - rightly - so let me recap what I think I understand:

  • No one really knows what "capturing without being seen" exactly means (or not that I know of) but we know that it is literally the worst way to farm that badge.
  • Long range sniper shots are kinda also off the table as 1) the maps are now full of bushes and there are very few good spots where you can make long range kills 2) you have to wait a lot for a few good kills 3) which reward very little to the badge (in my experience around a 50-100 for a kill)

How me and my friends farmed it is we turned our recon into infantry - farmed the badge and turned it back into recon (right pane on the soldier ui: Career options). This is the best way to go around this and I know it sounds odd but welcome to Heroes & Generals. The only problem here is that if you bought your soldier as a recon you can't switch to inf - but in this case I suggest giving it up as no matter the rank or the rifle both of those are literally still easier to farm then recon ribbon.

Dude, we're in 2021. You can't buy soldiers that can switch classes since August 2016. If you were playing back in the day, and you had enough foresight (and cash) you might have purchased some extra ones in anticipation (I did buy 6 just for Germany, with one of them still "sitting" idle 4 and a half years later). But the option isn't available for 99% of the current playerbase.

@CashBanooca Don't give up on the character. Scrap the sniper role. Get a PPSh for him and a wrench. Find a friend for grinding Chauffeur. Buy ribbon boosters. The Soviet recon cars, they're quite good and fun to play in the Assault Infantry gamemode.

Indeed although i'm not sure about the 2016 date but I can do it on most of my characters

I doubt that I think we have more veterans.

It was done back in Furness, which was released on August 8th 2016. At the bottom of the changelog you can read:

Furthermore, changes that affect new players, such as limitations for career switches, will not affect your current soldiers. You will furthermore keep all uniforms, vehicle paints and weapon finish you have already purchased.

There aren't that many veterans left from 5 years ago and more, but we don't notice that because we survivors hang out mostly with other vets. After all, 5 years on the Internet is an eternity. And probably the old vets don't have many legacy soldiers left anyways, a handful of them them probably have been turned into generals over time.

It still kind of feels like abandoning my team just to get a sidegrade

I guess I will stick with infantry even tho it feels a bit played out

I cant help myself to get a feeling of guilt every time we lose a battle because we are missing a man in the cap points

Its super kind for you all to be so helpful ! But I think my place is with my team
