It was used on this gun:

76mm divisional gun M1936 (F-22)

It should be marked "OPT - S A W GL ARTIL UGR"

Anybody have any ideas?

It's a so called "artillery panorama", also known in russian artillery books as "Herz panoram" (named after the Herz manufacturer that initially produced alike device authered by some Swissman Corrodi).

It's allready over 100 years universal optical device that with some (unknown fort me) minor changes and shifts (or without them) widely used in Soviet and Russian artillery.

The thing is that the device itself represented by mosly the periscope, level and the enlightnment device for the night operating is pretty useless without the second part of the actuall artillery scope - well what artillery man actually call "the scope", in fact meaning the aiming device.

It's the mechanical system with aiming wheels, a set of distance drums and the conical housing for the panorama itself. The distance drums were marked for exact type of a gun and its according ammunition. Here it's shown without the panoram:

Though I believe you asked about optics I will ask if you actually asked about that set of distance drums or not?

Hope I answered your question somehow.

As for the drums, is it what's written on them, or it's the device markings? And do you have any ideas of what letters were marked on distance drums set?

I can only distingisu UGR there which stands for the Universal GRenade. Not clearly remember what type of ammunition it is, but I almost sure it was likely the regular issued HE shell... Though it need some more digging.

Hey @Akinaba

thank you for your reply and sorry for my late reply.

I have actually two questions:

1) The optics, in the manuals it is usually simply called Панорама. I know for a fact that there are different variants, also different reticles were used depending on the production date. I am looking for the reticle of a Панорама produced around 1936-1942. It should most probably have a very simple reticle, it is described as follows: crosshair from top to bottom with a gab in the middle. Could you please help me to find photos of this variant and also photos of the reticle?

2) I am still trying to find the ranges on the range drum. I have some, but sadly it is rather difficult to read them from the photos which can be found on the internet. It would be great to get a manual for the 76mm divisional gun M1936 (F-22) from the war era, maybe there is one available somewhere?

The thing is that it's relatively old gun and iirc you already asked for that. I personally not really sure if it can be found online at current state. Howver the refrence probably could be found in some general early war artillery manuals (if be luck to find one). Better chance would probably be to find the german manual for that gun ;).

Though, if you got some pictures of that range drum set from the exact gun there is a chance we would be able to deschyfer cyrilic markings on it. Those 7 drums saying that it shot a wide nomenclature.
