ATTENTION! The content of this article is more than three months old and may not be relevant to the current version of the game

We have just updated the Prototype server with a new version of the “Vehicle Gameplay Update”, that we have been working on for quite some time. Following up on the great success of the first iteration we are now giving it a second go. We expect to be able to update the prototype servers twice a week (aiming for Tuesday and Thursday) with tweaks, balancing etc. We really appreciate the feedback and it helps us a lot in getting features both better balanced, but also more intuitive and more fun.

The Vehicle Gameplay Update is a major update to the game so we want as much feedback as possible and make as many iterations as necessary to ensure it is both balanced right as well as fun for everyone to use. Because the update contains such a large number of systems, features, changes, updates, tweaks etc. we have decided to split the feedback topics into three major areas.

WHAT ARE WE TESTING AND WHY?

We are testing the updated Vehicle Handling, the updated Vehicle Damage models and the new Deploy system. More on that below. Keep an eye on this post and on the prototype server as we will update it with tweaks, updates and bugfixes as they make their way through the pipeline.

Vehicle Gameplay Update – Handling

How does the vehicles feel when used, driving on roads or terrain, flying, landing, takeoff, jumping over a gorge on a bicycle and so on.
By adding more terrain types and updating how the vehicles behave accordingly this will provide a deeper gameplay benefiting all soldier types.
This forum topic contains additional information on ‘Vehicle Gameplay Update – Handling’ and is also where you can provide feedback to the developers.

Vehicle Gameplay Update – Damage

All vehicles use an internal hitbox system making it matter where you hit a vehicle, as not all hits will destroy a vehicle but might just break, for example, the tracks on a tank.

Vehicle Gameplay Update – Deploy

The Deploy update replaces the current queue systems with one that is simpler, less restrictive, and easier to understand. The system will also bring value to using all tiers of a vehicle type in combat. The idea is to give you more choice and flexibility in battle, reduce tank spam and make tanks tougher and more interesting to fight (directly tying into the new vehicle damage model and handling), reduce waiting time AND make it easier to play with friends.
This forum topic contains additional information on ‘Vehicle Gameplay Update – Deploy’ and is also where you can provide feedback to the developers. Since the last tests all deploy times has been lowered to make it much faster to deploy and to switch character/vehicle etc.

HOW DO I JOIN?

In order to participate, you will have to download the Prototype client.
You can download the client by clicking the link to http://prototype.heroesandgenerals.com
Download and install the client as indicated.

You will have more than enough Gold for testing purposes and grabbing the vehicles you want to play with! Please note that any gold, credits or warfunds are not transferred to the Live servers. What you do on the prototype server stays on the prototype server.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IN THE GAME TO HELP?

Login, and play the game focusing on the gameplay around vehicles, how do they handle, how do they fight and win or lose and how does the new deploy system work.

We would like Vehicle handling and Vehicle Damage feedback focused on:

  • If vehicles are too easy or too difficult to destroy in general.
  • If a specific vehicle is too easy or too difficult to destroy.
  • If components are too easy or too difficult to destroy on vehicles in general.
  • If components are too easy or too difficult to destroy on vehicles on a specific vehicle.
  • Any other feedback regarding the armor and damage model.
  • Any feedback regarding the vehicle handling and terrain system.

For the Deploy System – We’d like to hear your thoughts on big picture as well as the details.
Let us know which things you feel are going in the right direction and which ones need work.

  • Did you find the deploy menu easy to learn? Did anything confuse you?
  • What are you thoughts on the changed deploy flow (i.e. picking vehicle before picking deploy point as opposed to the other way around)?
  • Are these changes a general improvement over the current deploy menu?

Changelog and updates

Please see this forum topic for Prototype Changelog, updates, and Known Issues.

How do I give feedback?

Instead of having one gigantic messy and confusing feedback topic, I have made three different ones as detailed above. One for Vehicle Handling Feedback, one for Vehicle Damage Feedback, and one for Deploy Feedback

How long is this test going to go on?

We are keeping the server open for quite a while. After a number of fast iterations in July we have spent some time (those not on summer vacation) stabilising the build and iterating on features. We got a ton of great feedback on stuff you liked, and stuff you didn’t like. And we have updated, redesigned and tweaked accordingly.

FAQ

Q: How do I access the prototype server on Steam, Mail.Ru, or Hype?
A: Unfortunately, Prototype is only accessible through the standalone client. But you can use the same login, so you only need to download the stand-alone client.

Q: Can I play when I located outside Europe?
A: We have two different servers supporting prototype this time, one in Frankfurt, Germany like we normally have that gives good (or decent) ping for Europeans, Russians and most Americans, but we also have one running in Hong Kong so our Australian and Asian players should have a chance to play as well.

Q: Why is the downloading of the client progressing so slow?
A: During the initial opening of the server, there is a heavy load on download centers.

Q: Why does my game crash and why are the servers unstable?
A: The Prototype servers are used for testing new (buggy) features before QA has tested it completely, and as a result servers might be unstable. If you experience crashes or instability please let us know in the feedback topics. Also outside normal working hours getting issues fixed and servers running again might take some time.

Q: Does this impact my normal game?
A: No, You have a separate amount of credits, gold & warfunds as well as separate characters, weapons, vehicles etc. on the prototype server!

Q: Do I get the Gold, Warfunds and Credits back in the normal game?
A: No, the free stuff stays on the prototype server.

Q: Am I allowed to have fun?
A: YES! While this is a test it is also a game, so go have some fun! Check out other vehicles, factions and careers from what you normally play.
