You are already devoted to the game and know every bit of it? Now we think it is time that you get to know the team a little better and this is why from now on, we will present you one of our Developers every week. With all the funny, interesting and unexpected bits about each of us.
What’s the story of the tag?
Jesper / Reto.Mato. It’s just a silly, silly fruit.
What is your position and what does that mean?
I’m a Character Artist, which means first creating all the uniform parts and items in what we call high resolution models. These models are then made into lower resolution models which are the ones that are used in the game. From the high resolution models various texture maps are “baked” for the lower resolution models which are also used in the game. Besides character stuff I also made some of the background assets, combat ribbons and combat badges.
What was the best thing to work on so far?
I can’t really say because it’s not announced yet. ;O)
What are you excited about in the future?
Seeing Heroes & Generals evolve and expand even further. There’s so many great possibilities for this game.
What did you do before Reto?
I worked on Sword of Sodan and made OsWald the TV entertainment game for the Amiga. Then I worked three years at Nordisk Film Broadcast and Commercial, making graphics for various TV programs and commercials. After that I founded Zyrinx with some friends (The Amiga demo guys that I did the Hardwired demo with), went to the USA and did Sub-Terrania and Redzone for the Sega Mega Drive /Genesis plus a bunch of film and comic book license game projects. Five years later I returned to Denmark and founded IO Interactive together with some other friends and did the Hitman series, Kane & Lynch and Freedom Fighters. Founded Reto-Moto with some more friends and are currently making Heroes & Generals.
What is the best thing about working at Reto?
Working with a really nice team of people with a burning passion to make something really great!
What is your favourite thing about Heroes & Generals?
The feeling that you are a part of a huge war where every little action really makes a difference in the larger scheme of things.
What are your hobbies?
It’s not really hobbies but I enjoy games, music and movies (good hi-fi gear), tinkering on a time machine, art and comic books I guess…
Favourite Games/Games that inspired you to have a career in games?
When I was a little kid I visited a dark arcade hall (remember those?) and discovered something new called Dragon’s Lair. It was fundamentally different from every other odd pixel game at the time. Both in regards to storytelling, graphics and sound. It felt like a glimpse into the future and from that moment I knew that games was what I wanted do.
What’s your favourite films
I don’t really have any favourite films. It’s like friends. I like them for different reasons. :O)
