Officially designated a light tractor, the Kettenkrad might not be the fastest, but it is definitely one of the most maneuverable and versatile vehicles of the war. With the ability to attach a supply crate and improved off-road capabilities, the Kettenkrad offers a completely different experience when transporting the player into battle. Who wants a regular motorbike, when you can get a motorbike with treads and supplies?

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Kleines Kettenkraftrad HK 101 popularly known as the Kettenkrad, was designated the SdKfz 2 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 2) by the German Army. It was developed in 1939 and was used in operation Barbarossa in 1941. The name Kettenkrad comes from the German words “ketten” (tracks) and “krad” (abbreviation of kraftrad, a motorcycle).

It was originally conceived as a light tractor for airborne and mountain troops but was eventually widely used for small scale infantry transport and as aircraft tugs. The Kettenkrad is powered by an Opel 4-cyl 36hp engine, located behind the driver. Its front wheel is controlled by the driver like a motorcycle while the rear body 1s supported on tracks. Cargo or passengers can be carried in the rear. This is represented in game by being able to upgrade the vehicle with a supply crate, and the ability to transport up to 3 of your teammates.
